Terms of use

The rules for using this site, in plain words. Last updated 27 July 2026.

What this site is

MCReference is a reference for the Minecraft software ecosystem. It reads published APIs, stores what they say, and presents it in one place with a link back to every source. Using the site means accepting what is on this page.

We do not host files

Every download link on this site points at the publisher’s own host. Nothing is mirrored, repackaged, re-hosted or modified. Where we publish a checksum, it is the checksum the publisher published, so you can verify that the file you received is the file they released.

What you download is governed by that publisher’s licence and terms, not by ours.

Accuracy, and its limits

The data here is synced from sources that can be wrong, out of date, or briefly unavailable. We show the evidence behind every compatibility claim and the time each page was last checked, precisely so you can judge it rather than trust it blindly.

The site is provided as it is, with no warranty. Verify anything that matters against the project’s own page before you act on it, especially before upgrading a server people depend on.

Other people's content

Project names, icons, screenshots and short summaries belong to their authors. They appear here to identify the project, alongside a link to the author’s own page. We do not reproduce long descriptions or documentation.

If you are an author and want your project changed or removed, write to us and we will do it.

Our own content

The written guides, the illustrations and the code behind this site are ours. The underlying facts, such as which Java version a Minecraft release requires, are facts and belong to nobody.

Automated access

Reading the site with a script is fine if you are gentle about it. Crawling it hard enough to affect other people is not, and will be blocked. If you want this data in bulk, the sources we read are listed on the sources page and they are all public. Go to them directly rather than through us.

Trademarks

NOT AN OFFICIAL MINECRAFT SERVICE. NOT APPROVED BY OR ASSOCIATED WITH MOJANG OR MICROSOFT.

Minecraft is a trademark of Mojang Synergies AB. Every other project name here belongs to its own owner. Their names are used to refer to their software, which is the only way to write a reference about it.

Changes

These terms change when the site does. The date at the top says when they last did.
