Version history
Minecraft April Fools versions
Mojang has published a joke build almost every year since 2015. They are real, downloadable versions that appear in the launcher manifest, but they were never part of the development line towards a release, which is why they are listed separately here instead of buried among that year's snapshots.
9 joke versions
Newest first. Downloads link to Mojang.
Herdcraft: the 2026 joke build.
Craftmine: a roguelike run-based mode layered on top of the normal game.
Poisonous Potato Update: an entire dimension built around potatoes.
The Vote Update: players voted on features that then took effect in the world.
One Block at a Time: every block had to be placed by voting, one at a time.
Infinite snapshots: added a writable book that teleported you into procedurally generated dimensions.
A parody of a 1990s shareware game, complete with a level select and a demo screen.
Trendy Update: added a fake app store, memes and a 'realistic' rendering mode.
Love and Hugs: combat replaced with hugging, and every mob turned friendly.
These versions are in Mojang’s launcher manifest, so they can still be selected and played. A handful of other joke builds, such as the 2013 Java Edition 2.0 releases, were never added to the manifest and are not listed here.
