How to ask for something to come down, and what happens after you do. Last updated 2 August 2026.
What this site actually holds
MCReference does not host mod, plugin or modpack files. Every download link on this site points at the file on the platform its author published it to; we store the URL, the file size and a checksum, and nothing else. Project icons and screenshots are loaded directly from the host the author uploaded them to, not copied to our servers. See how this site works for the fuller version.
That means a takedown request against this site is almost always a request to remove a database row: a name, a short summary, a version list and a link. It is not a request to remove a file, because we do not have the file.
If you are the rights holder
If your project is listed here and you want it corrected, unlisted, or you believe we have described it in a way that infringes your rights, email dmca@mcreference.com with:
- The page address on MCReference you are writing about.
- What you want: correction, removal, or an explanation of what changed.
- A statement that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them, and a way to contact you back.
We do not require a notice to conform to any particular legal format before we act on it. If you would rather your project simply not be listed at all, say so; no justification is needed and it will be removed and kept out of future syncs.
If you believe a listing is not actually infringing
Every project on this site is listed using metadata its own publisher made public through a documented API: the name, a short summary, the versions it declares, and a link back to the publisher’s own page. If you believe a takedown request against a listing was made in error, or that the listing is a fair use of publicly published metadata, write to the same address with your side of it and we will look at both before acting.
What we do on receiving a notice
- We locate the page and confirm what it actually shows.
- If the request is to unlist a project entirely, we do that without argument.
- If the request disputes a specific fact, we check it against the source we synced it from and correct whichever of the two is wrong.
- We reply to confirm what was done, generally within a few days.
Trademarks
NOT AN OFFICIAL MINECRAFT SERVICE. NOT APPROVED BY OR ASSOCIATED WITH MOJANG OR MICROSOFT. Minecraft, the Minecraft logo and Mojang are trademarks of Mojang Synergies AB, and this site uses none of their artwork, logo or typeface. Project names and logos used throughout this site belong to their respective projects and are used only to identify them, in the same way a store directory names the shops in it.
Repeat infringement
MCReferencecarries no user-uploaded content: every fact and image comes from a publisher’s own API rather than from a visitor, so there is no account or uploader to terminate for repeat infringement. If a specific upstream source keeps supplying material that draws valid notices, we stop syncing from it.
