How do I install shaders in Minecraft?

Install a shader loader such as Iris (for Fabric) or OptiFine, then put the shader pack file into your .minecraft/shaderpacks folder. Enable it in the video settings.

Do I need Iris or OptiFine?

You need one of them. Iris runs on Fabric and is actively maintained. OptiFine is standalone and has been around longer. Most shader packs work with both, but some are written for one or the other.

Do shaders work on servers?

Shaders run entirely on the client. The server does not need anything installed, and other players are not affected by your shaders.

What is a Minecraft shader pack?
