NightfallCraft Minecraft modpack: versions, setup and compatibility
NightfallCraft is a large Minecraft modpack with its own version requirements. Check the exact pack release, launcher format and dependencies before starting a world.
What makes a modpack different
NightfallCraft is not one jar that can be dropped into a mods folder. It is a packaged experience built from multiple mods, their dependencies, configuration files and, depending on the release, worlds or other content. The NightfallCraft project page keeps the pack's published versions and declared Minecraft compatibility together.
That bundle is the important part. Installing one or two of the included mods by hand does not reproduce the pack, and replacing a library with a newer-looking file can break another mod that expects the version shipped by the author.
Choose the exact release first
Before opening a world, record three values from the pack release:
- the Minecraft version;
- the loader and loader version;
- the pack version or release channel.
Do not choose a launcher profile by the pack name alone. A pack can have separate releases for different Minecraft versions, and an update can move from one loader generation to another. The modpack catalogue and the project page show the version metadata MCReference has synced from the publisher.
Use a launcher that understands the pack format
Import the pack into a launcher that supports its published format, such as the launcher named by the publisher. For an mrpack, the launcher should resolve the declared dependencies and fetch files from their original sources. For a CurseForge or platform-specific export, use the matching importer rather than treating the archive like a normal zip.
If the launcher reports a missing file, do not immediately download a random replacement from a third-party mirror. Check whether the pack release is still available, whether the dependency is optional, and whether the publisher has issued a new pack version. A checksum or publisher release page is more useful than a filename found in a search result.
Updating without losing a world
Back up the entire instance before updating, including the world folder, configuration, scripts and the pack export if you have one. Keep the backup outside the instance directory so a launcher repair cannot overwrite it.
Open the updated pack on a copy of the world first. Watch the log for registry remapping, missing dependencies and data-fix messages. Walk through an area that contains custom blocks and entities, then make a fresh backup after the test succeeds. A world that has been opened by a newer pack may not be safe to open with the old pack again.
Server installation is a separate job
A client import is not automatically a dedicated-server installation. The server needs the server-compatible pack files, the same Minecraft version and the same loader family. Some client-only mods should not be copied to the server; some gameplay mods must be present on both sides.
For a server, use the publisher's server instructions when available and keep the generated configuration with the server backup. The mrpack server guide covers the general process and the caveats around files that a launcher normally downloads for a client.
What to do when it crashes
Start with the first meaningful Caused by line, not the final shutdown message. A missing dependency names a project; a wrong Java version names the runtime; a loader error names the platform mismatch. Compare that evidence with the exact NightfallCraft release before changing several jars at once.
NightfallCraft's compatibility can change when its publisher releases a new pack version, so use the live project page for the current release list. MCReference links to the publisher and does not host or repackage the pack.
