Minecraft 26.3 modpacks: what is out and where the big packs are
199 modpacks already declare Minecraft 26.3, and most of them are FPS and optimization packs. Which ones, and why All the Mods and the other big packs are still on 1.21.1 and 1.20.1.
Minecraft 26.3 came out on 15 September 2026. Twelve days later, 199 modpacks in our catalogue declare it in their own release data. For comparison: 703 declare 26.2, 1,814 declare 1.21.1 and 2,081 declare 1.20.1.
That gap is normal, and it tells you what kind of pack you can play on 26.3 right now.
Mostly performance packs so far
A performance pack is a small set of mods that make the game run faster and look a bit better, without changing how it plays. They update quickly because they only depend on a handful of mods like Sodium, which are usually ready within days of a release. The most downloaded ones on 26.3:
- Fabulously Optimized. The biggest by far, with more than 25 million downloads across Modrinth and CurseForge. Better performance, better graphics options, familiar features.
- FPS Modpack. A minimal pack with only the essential performance mods.
- Remarkably Optimized. Another lightweight performance pack, maintained from 1.16.5 all the way to 26.3.
- Keo Optimized. Only essential mods, with Fabric, Forge and NeoForge builds.
- MAX FPS: Optimized. Sixteen optimization mods and nothing else.
- Additive and Adrenaline. Open source performance packs, marked alpha and beta for 26.3 by their authors, so expect some rough edges.
Nearly all of these run on Fabric. If you want the details on which loader suits you, see Fabric, NeoForge or Quilt.
Vanilla plus packs
A few packs add small gameplay improvements while keeping the game recognisable:
- The Vanilla Experience, a light vanilla plus pack for 26.3.
- Vanilla+ Lightweight, aimed at low spec computers.
- Better Realism MC, for a more realistic look and feel.
- Re-Console, which recreates the old Legacy Console Edition on modern Java Edition.
Where the big packs are
The packs with the most players are still on older versions, and will be for a while:
| Modpack | Minecraft version |
|---|---|
| All the Mods 10 | 1.21.1 |
| The Pixelmon Modpack | 1.21.1 |
| Cobblemon Official Modpack | 1.21.1 |
| Better MC BMC4 | 1.20.1 |
| Prominence II | 1.20.1 |
A pack like All the Mods holds hundreds of mods. It can only move to a new Minecraft version once every one of those mods has, and then the whole pack needs testing again. That is why the big packs pick one version and stay on it for a long time, and why 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 are still the busiest modded versions in 2026.
So if the pack you want is one of these, play it on its own version. Your launcher handles that for you. There is no benefit in waiting for a 26.3 port that may never come.
Picking a pack
- For more FPS on vanilla 26.3: any of the performance packs above. They also work when you join an ordinary server.
- For a big modded adventure: one of the large packs on its own version, not 26.3.
- Not sure? The modpack picker narrows it down by what you want to play.
Running a pack on a server is a different job: the server needs the same pack, the right Java version and enough memory. The modpack server guide and the RAM guide cover both.
